Imran Khan, Where Are You? Adiala Jail Responds to Death Rumours

The Adiala Jail administration has confirmed that former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is alive, healthy, and still lodged inside the Rawalpindi prison. This clarification comes after intense unrest outside the jail on Wednesday, triggered by widespread rumours claiming that Imran Khan had died while in custody. According to Geo News, officials called the speculation “baseless,” adding that Imran is receiving “complete medical attention.”

“Reports suggesting his transfer from Adiala Jail are false. He is in perfect health,” the jail administration said in its statement. Imran Khan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former Cricket captain, has remained in prison for more than two years over a series of terrorism and corruption cases.

Imran’s children and sisters have repeatedly alleged that he is being kept in inhumane conditions, including prolonged solitary confinement, despite court-ordered guidelines and visitation rights.

Protests Outside Adiala Jail

Imran’s sisters-Noreen Khan (Niazi), Aleema Khan, and Uzma Khan-who have been leading demonstrations, say that despite Islamabad High Court’s orders granting twice-weekly meetings, they have not been allowed access to him.

Chaos erupted on Wednesday when PTI supporters and members of Khan’s family staged a sit-in near the Adiala Jail checkpoint. Within hours, thousands of PTI workers gathered at the site, with some attempting to storm the jail premises. Violent clashes broke out as tensions escalated.

The protest was eventually paused after Aleema Khan was assured by police and prison officials that a meeting with Imran Khan would be arranged. According to ARY News, Imran is expected to meet his sisters later today and again next Tuesday, as per the visitation schedule.

This demonstration follows another sit-in staged last week, during which Imran’s sisters claimed they were dragged, mistreated, and briefly detained by the authorities.

“Imran Has TV and Exercise Equipment,” Says Defence Minister

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that Imran Khan is enjoying far better facilities in jail compared to standard prison conditions or even those Asif himself experienced during his own imprisonment.

“Look at the menu of the meals he receives. It’s better than what you get in a five-star hotel,” Asif said, according to Geo News. He added that the former prime minister has access to exercise equipment, a television, and other comforts inside his cell. Imran is also reportedly provided with a double bed and a velvet mattress.

Asif contrasted this with his own past conditions in prison. “We slept on cold floors, ate jail food, and had only two blankets in January with no hot water,” he recalled. He added that the jail superintendent at the time personally oversaw the removal of the geyser from his cell.
