The ongoing dispute between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt over the French winery they previously jointly owned is intensifying and rekindling past issues, as fresh court filings claim Pitt had a “history of physical abuse of Jolie” before their tragic flight in 2016.

Jolie attempted to sell Pitt her interest in the Miraval winery, but their negotiations failed when Pitt demanded that Jolie sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that “prohibited Jolie from speaking (other than in court) about Pitt’s abuse of Jolie and their children by attempting to tie Pitt’s personal reputation to Miraval’s business.” TFD has obtained a copy of the motion that Jolie filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday.

The new filing this week is related to Pitt’s complaint from 2022, in which he stated that he and Jolie had a deal that said neither would sell their share of the vineyard without the other’s approval. He claimed in a June 2023 filing that Jolie’s winery share sale was “vindictive” in response to a “adverse custody ruling.”

In the filing on Thursday, Jolie further states that Pitt’s “history of physical abuse of Jolie started well before the family’s September 2016 plane trip from France to Los Angeles,” however she provides no other information regarding the alleged abuse from earlier in time.

As per the motion, Jolie intends to demonstrate during the trial, via testimony, emails, photographs, and other evidence, why Pitt blew up his own arrangement to buy Jolie’s part in Miraval because she wouldn’t sign his new, extensive NDA.

Jolie states in the document dated Thursday that she was close to concluding an initial arrangement to sell Pitt her share of the winery, which included signing an NDA “limited to not disparaging Miraval’s wine business.”

Pitt had earlier stated in his June 2023 amended complaint that Jolie had proposed an even more expansive NDA that “would have provided that neither party shall directly or through a party’s representatives make in a public forum any derogatory remark about the other party, other than in court pleadings or testimony.”

In an attempt to get comment on the fresh accusations detailed in Thursday’s petition, TFD contacted a spokesman for Pitt.

When Ms. Jolie refused to be silenced by his NDA, Mr. Pitt declined to buy her stake. Paul Murphy, Jolie’s lawyer, told TFD in a statement on Thursday that “Mr. Pitt put directly at issue why that NDA was so important to him and what he hoped it would bury: his abuse of Ms. Jolie and their family.” This was in response to Pitt’s refusal to buy her interest and subsequent lawsuit against her. “This motion asks the Court to force Mr. Pitt to finally produce that evidence after eight months of delays.”

According to the complaint, Jolie decided that “the best course was for Pitt to accept responsibility and help the family recover from the post-traumatic stress he caused” and never actually filed charges against Pitt in connection with the altercation in 2016.

After the FBI finished its investigation, CNN previously reported that Pitt was neither charged nor detained in relation to the 2016 incident. Additionally, in an October 2022 filing, Pitt’s counsel refuted Jolie’s version of the incident. At the time, Brad Pitt “has accepted responsibility for what he did but will not for things he didn’t do,” according to a statement given by Pitt’s representative to CNN.

The Russian businessman Yuri Shefler’s Stoli Group subsidiary Tenute del Mondo purchased half of Jolie’s winery in October 2021.

The statement states that Jolie and their family are suffering greatly emotionally and financially as a result of the protracted court processes and Pitt’s “unyielding attempts to control and punish Jolie.” “Jolie sincerely hopes Pitt would feel the same way, as she longs for their family to be able to heal and for their children to be spared from additional suffering and trauma.”

In 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt. In 2019, they were formally proclaimed single, and in 2021, a shared custody plan was formed.

There are still continuing legal processes pertaining to the Miraval issue. In 2008, the former couple bought the vineyard and rural home in the south of France.

Conclusion

The ongoing legal battle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt regarding the Miraval winery underscores the complexities and past issues surrounding their relationship. As allegations of physical abuse resurface, the legal processes continue, highlighting the need for resolution and clarity in this high-profile dispute.
