In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday, the former comedian from “Late Night” and “Conan” discussed his forthcoming Max travel series, “Conan O’Brien Must Go,” in which he visits different countries to engage with fans and learn about their cultures. This week, O’Brien declared, “I love talking to people.” “It’s really enjoyable, it’s just a joy.”
He claimed that meeting and surprising fans was one of his favorite aspects of filming the travel series, but he also enjoyed the many run-ins with strangers who had no idea who he was.
He chuckled, “They’re not that impressed.” “And I egg them on until they really put me down and I don’t know why, but it makes me so happy.”
O’Brien travels to places like Ireland, Norway, Thailand, and Argentina in the series, which will debut on Max next week. He claimed to have enjoyed every place equally.
He remarked, “It’s hard to say which country I liked better,” but each episode “is very different, but they were really fun to do.”
O’Brien recently made a special trip to his former haunts when making an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” earlier this week. From 2009 to 2010, O’Brien hosted “The Tonight Show” at that particular NBC studio.
O’Brien admitted to Tapper that his studio was in fact located across the hall from where Fallon recorded his show, and he added that returning to the building gave him a wonderful sensation, despite not being able to see his former set.
“Just being back on that floor felt incredibly good. Reunions are “very emotional,” he added, adding that “there are still some who came out who are still working at NBC who were there when I was there.”
“It was really pleasant to be back; it was a very sweet feeling,” he continued.
Before his brief tenure anchoring “The Tonight Show,” O’Brien hosted “Late Night” from 1993 to 2009. After 11 seasons, his late-night TBS program “Conan” concluded in 2021.
On April 18, “Conan O’Brien Must Go” premieres on Max.
