While he worked for the computer firm, “Daily Show” anchor Jon Stewart said that Apple forbade him from speaking with Federal Trade Commission Chairperson Lina Khan.

In a recent interview, which debuted late on Comedy Central on Monday, Stewart stated that Apple pressured him to refrain from speaking with Khan, who became the head of the Federal Trade Commission in 2021.

Stewart remarked, “I wanted to have you on a podcast, but Apple asked us not to.” He went on, “They basically told, ‘Please don’t talk to her,’ having no bearing whatsoever on your line of work. I believe they simply That’s what occurred, I didn’t think they cared about you.”

From 2021 to 2023, Stewart had a brief appearance on Apple TV with a program titled “The Problem With Jon Stewart,” which featured a companion podcast. Last autumn, artistic differences caused the partnership to dissolve. In February, Stewart made a guest appearance on Comedy Central’s “Daily Show” as a part-time host.

“What is that sensitivity, like?” Stewart stated on Monday. “What makes them so fearful of engaging in these discussions in public?”

Representatives for Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Khan expressed gratitude to Stewart for the interview in a post on X on Tuesday morning.

“Thanks to @jonstewart for having me on to talk about @FTC’s work to lower the cost of asthma inhalers, the importance of holding corporate executives accountable for lawbreaking, and how monopolies can use their power to bully, coerce, and censor speech,” she tweeted.

Although the FTC under Khan has not particularly attacked Apple, it has criticized other companies that are frequently included in the Big Tech category. Most recently, the FTC pointed out that Amazon, Google, and Microsoft have been pursuing artificial intelligence initiatives.

In the meantime, Apple was accused of controlling the smartphone market by the U.S. Department of Justice, which last month revealed a broad antitrust lawsuit against the company.

Khan also authored a 449-page report for a House subcommittee that compared Apple and other big digital businesses to Gilded Age monopolies and called for their dissolution.
