After exhibiting conduct that coworkers deemed “distressing,” a Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President Kamala Harris’ detail was relieved of their duties, the service announced.
The vice president was scheduled to visit Wisconsin on Monday, the agency said. The incident happened at Joint Base Andrews on Monday at approximately nine in the morning ET.
According to a statement released by Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi, the agent started “displaying behavior their colleagues found distressing.” What that behavior involved was not made clear by the statement.
Guglielmi stated, “The agent was taken off of their assignment while medical personnel were called in.” When the incident occurred, Harris was at the Naval Observatory, and “there was no impact on her departure” from the installation.
Guglielmi stated, “The U.S. Secret Service takes the safety and health of our employees very seriously.” Since this was a medical issue, we won’t share any further information.
An inquiry for comment was not immediately answered by Harris’ office.
The Washington Examiner was the first to report on the occurrence.
