On Sunday, March 17, Chelsea defeated 10-man Leicester City at Stamford Bridge in stoppage time to advance to the 2023–24 FA Cup semi-finals.

Super subs Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke stole the show with two thrilling stoppage-time goals to help Chelsea defeat Leicester City 4-2 and move on to the FA Cup semi-finals.

The much awaited Sunday match featured every element of a memorable cup final: a fast-paced back-and-forth, a mishandled penalty, a dismissal, a terrible own goal, and a couple of fantastic goals.

Thanks to strong goals from Marc Cucurella and Cole Palmer, a dominant Chelsea team appeared to be in control at the break. However, Jakub Stolarczyk of Leicester easily stopped Raheem Sterling’s weak attempt at a penalty kick.

The game changed in the 51st minute when Leicester scored a goal thanks to a terrible error made by Chelsea’s French defender Axel Disasi. The defender’s ball back ended up in his own net, which gave Leicester the advantage.

With a magnificent solo performance, Stephy Mavididi of Leicester City tied the score in the 61st minute by deftly avoiding Malo Gusto and curling the ball into the corner.

In the 71st minute, the drama intensified when Callum Doyle of Leicester was sent off for pinching Nicolas Jackson’s heels just outside the penalty area. Jackson was clearly in the goal, thus the first yellow card that was given was reversed following a VAR consultation.

Chelsea piled on the pressure on the faltering Leicester team, finishing with an enormous 26 shots to Leicester’s pitiful five. Chukwuemeka and Madueke, two Chelsea bench players who came on late, provided the breakthrough.

Eight minutes remained, and Madueke made it four with a long-range stunner just before full time. Chukwuemeka finished the scoring with ease after Cole’s clever back pass.

Chelsea will try to turn things around when they return to Wembley next month for their sixth FA Cup semi-final in the previous eight years, following their defeat by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final last month.

The other clubs that have advanced to the FA Cup semi-finals are Manchester City and Coventry City; Liverpool or Manchester United will likely join them.

Conclusion

Chelsea’s triumph in the FA Cup quarter-finals not only underscores their prowess but also sets the stage for an exciting semi-final clash. The thrilling stoppage-time goals will be remembered as a defining moment in their journey.
