Many experts thought that generative AI was the way of the future when interest in it peaked last year. AI’s impact on the job market was also widely discussed and while on one hand people said that AI would lead to loss of human jobs, others argued that it would also create more opportunities. It appears that the latter was accurate, as organizations such as Meta are allegedly actively seeking AI talent. A fresh report says that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is looking to hire AI researchers from its competitor Google. Not only this, the report added that Zuckerberg has personally messaged researchers at Google DeepMind, hoping to hire them.

Mark Zuckerberg desires to employ AI specialists

Two people with knowledge of the situation have disclosed that Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has been personally corresponding by email with AI researchers at Google’s DeepMind. This information was reported in The Information.

One of these individuals—who wished to remain anonymous—shared that in his email, Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of AI to Meta and expressed optimism for their future cooperation at the company.

Additionally, the report stated that Meta has been making employment offers to applicants without doing interviews. Furthermore, it has been claimed that the corporation has modified its strategy regarding wage negotiations, taking into account greater wages for workers who receive competitive job offers.

Chief AI scientist at Meta on the future of AI

In a related vein, Yann LeCun, the top AI scientist of Meta, made news a few days ago due to his opinions on artificial intelligence. LeCun had reacted to a tweet from Elon Musk, the CEO of X, stating that AI will soon surpass human intelligence.

Yann LeCun, the chief AI officer of Meta and widely regarded as one of the fathers of AI, expressed his disagreement with the idea.

Le Cun responded to Musk by stating that if this were the case, artificial intelligence (AI) systems would exist that could learn to drive in roughly 20 hours, just like a 17-year-old.

“Not at all. If that were the case, artificial intelligence systems would be able to learn how to drive a car just like any other 17-year-old in 20 hours of practice. However, despite the fact that we (you) have millions of hours of *labeled* training data, we still do not have fully autonomous, trustworthy self-driving technology,” he added.

LeCun has already expressed opposition to the concept of superintelligent AI. The head of Meta AI had previously referred to Musk’s concern about AI eradicating humanity as “ridiculous” last year.

Conclusion

Yann LeCun’s views highlight ongoing discussions about AI’s future, while Zuckerberg’s outreach signals Meta’s interest in top AI talent. This intersection underscores the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.
