According to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, at least one person died in the state as a result of Tuesday’s catastrophic storms. In Campbell County, a man lost his life in an automobile accident early on Tuesday as severe storms tore through the state.

According to Beshear, there were no more recorded fatalities or injuries in the state. Beshear remarked, “But listen, the loss of one life—I think this is a young man—is a tragic event, and we’ll be praying for him and his family.” Following “significant damage” from the storms to the Lexington area, the governor declared a state of emergency for the entire state on Tuesday.

Just north of Louisville, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the storms also caused at least ten injuries, according to the mayor of the town, who spoke with CNN affiliate WLKY. The mayor shared pictures on social media that showed pieces of numerous homes’ roofs missing and debris all over a neighborhood.

Early on Wednesday morning, Conyers, Georgia, a small town southeast of Atlanta, was struck by a tornado that caused damage and downed power lines, as reported by CNN station WXIA. A tree crashed through the teen’s automobile and into his lap during the storm. According to WXIA, the teenager was saved and sent to a hospital.

Prolonged snowfall and powerful gusts

The National Weather Service predicts that a lengthy winter storm will bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to the Northeast and Great Lakes. The National Weather Service reports that almost 12 million people, mostly in northern New England, are under a winter weather alert.

Up to Thursday, there will be a lot of heavy, wet snow across Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. A blizzard warning has been issued owing to the combination of strong winds and heavy precipitation, with up to two feet of snow predicted to fall in some areas of Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Later on Wednesday afternoon, a lot of snow and sleet was heading into Maine, most of Vermont, New Hampshire, and northern New York. Sleet accumulations of up to one inch are likely, and snow accumulations of six to fourteen inches are possible. The meteorological agency predicts significant snow accumulations of more than 12 inches over northern New York and central New England.

The combination of heavy snow and high winds is expected to cause some traffic disruptions and power outages. The region may see dangerous travel conditions due to whiteout conditions and snow-covered roadways, and power outages and felled trees may ensue from heavy, wet snowfall and severe wind gusts.

According to the weather service, certain areas of the Northeast coast could see moderate coastal flooding late on Wednesday or early Thursday. This might lead to extensive flooding of highways, flooding along the coast and in the bay, impassable roads, and damage to buildings that are susceptible.

As of Thursday, the region will be affected by a powerful storm, according to the National Weather Service in New York. “Heavy rain, strong to damaging winds, and widespread minor to moderate coastal flooding later on Wednesday and early Thursday during high tide.”

Conclusion

As the powerful storm approaches New York, it’s crucial to remain vigilant and prepared for heavy rain, strong winds, and potential coastal flooding. Stay updated with reliable sources and heed advisories from the National Weather Service and local authorities to ensure safety and minimize risks. Let’s prioritize safety measures and support each other through this challenging weather event.
