Severe Storm Alert: Powerful Weather System Expected in New York with Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

From the South to the Ohio Valley, a strong storm system produced tornadoes and destructive storms that resulted in at least three fatalities and multiple injuries.

When storms slammed through Pennsylvania on Wednesday, two individuals were killed by fallen trees, according to CNN affiliate WPVI. When trees fell on their cars while they were driving, an 82-year-old woman in Collegeville and a 70-year-old man in Aston Township died, according to officials who spoke with WPVI.

According to Governor Andy Beshear, there was at least one fatality in Kentucky on Tuesday due to strong storms. In Campbell County, a man lost his life in an automobile accident while severe storms pummeled the state.

According to Beshear, there were no more recorded fatalities or injuries in the state. Beshear remarked, “But listen, the loss of one life—I think this is a young man—is a tragic event, and we’ll be praying for him and his family.” Following “significant damage” from the storms to the Lexington area, the governor declared a state of emergency for the entire state on Tuesday.

Just north of Louisville, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the storms also caused at least ten injuries, according to the mayor of the town, who spoke with CNN affiliate WLKY. The mayor shared pictures on social media that showed pieces of numerous homes’ roofs missing and debris all over a neighborhood.

Governor Jim Justice issued a state of emergency for Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln, and Nicholas counties on Tuesday, citing “flooding, downed trees, power outages, and road blockages” caused by severe thunderstorms.

Director of the Office of Emergency Management for Fayette County, West Virginia, Kevin Walker told CNN that at least 13 homes were damaged and that several occupants were hurt. Walker stated that the wounds were not life-threatening.

Walker stated, “Some have major damage, and some are destroyed.”

Along with scores of reports of damaging winds, including gusts above 100 mph in Kentucky, sixteen tornadoes were reported on Tuesday and Wednesday early in Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia.

Early on Wednesday morning, Conyers, Georgia, a small town southeast of Atlanta, was struck by a tornado that caused damage and downed power lines, as reported by CNN station WXIA. A tree crashed through the teen’s automobile and into his lap during the storm. According to WXIA, the teenager was saved and sent to a hospital.

The Peachtree City National Weather Service office reported that the twister had an EF2 rating, had a path of around 9.5 miles, and was 800 yards wide. There were gusts of up to 115 mph.

There were no reported injuries.

After a tornado warning passed through the region, an Ohio elementary school in Proctorville was left in ruins. Fortunately, Fairland West Elementary kids were on spring break, but district officials told CNN that the school will remain closed for the time being.

Poweroutage.us reports that more than 53,000 West Virginia utility customers were still without power on Wednesday night following Tuesday’s strong winds that reached speeds of up to 90 mph.

According to Matthew Brown, Director of Morgan County E-911, the storm system that brought two tornadoes to Tennessee on Tuesday caused damage to a funeral home and some homes in the hamlet of Sunbright.

After a National Weather Service survey team evaluated the damage on Wednesday, they assigned an EF1 rating to the tornado that struck Sunbright with speeds as high as 105 mph.

Following Monday’s four tornadoes that ravaged the state, Barnsdall Police also reported structural damage in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. According to Officer Eric Sofian, homes were damaged, garages were wrecked, and some of the houses’ roofs were removed.

“When it came through, I was on duty and patrolling the streets,” he stated. “I saw a lot of sparks flying from the power lines, and there was a lot of lightning and heavy wind.”

According to the Storm Prediction Center, Missouri saw three more tornadoes on Monday.

According to Indiana State Police in Sellersburg, many cars in southern Indiana were overturned “due to high winds or (a) possible tornado” on Interstate 265. Minor injuries were also recorded.

Large hail, powerful gusts, and the possibility of tornadoes are all being brought to portions of the Southeast and East Coast by storms, extending from Florida to the mid-Atlantic. The Storm Prediction Center states that Wednesday’s severe weather might affect over 30 million people.

Prolonged snowfall and powerful gusts

According to the weather service, certain areas of the Northeast coast could see moderate coastal flooding late on Wednesday or early Thursday. This might lead to extensive flooding of highways, flooding along the coast and in the bay, impassable roads, and damage to buildings that are susceptible.
