After taking off from San Francisco, California, a United Airlines flight was found to be missing an exterior panel on Friday afternoon upon landing in Medford, Oregon, the airline reported.

When someone on the ground noticed the panel was missing, the plane carrying 145 passengers and crew safely landed and was parked at the gate at Rogue Valley International Medford Airport, according to a statement from United Airlines.

According to the airline, there was no indication of damage throughout the flight and the crew of Flight 433 did not declare an emergency.

United claims that the aircraft is a Boeing 737-800. It’s not the more contemporary 737 Max that’s been generating headlines; rather, it’s an earlier model.

According to United, the aircraft’s flying qualities remain unaffected by the missing panel.

According to United Spokesperson Leslie Scott, the missing panel was located beneath the main landing gear, underneath the wing, and on the bottom side of the fuselage, CNN said.

The aircraft is not fit for flight, according to Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport Director Amber Judd, who told the Rogue Valley Times that it “will be here for a while.” It’s unknown where the missing panel is, Judd continued.

Judd stated to the RV Times, “They don’t know where they lost it.”

Before the aircraft returns to service, United promised to “conduct a thorough examination of the plane and perform all the necessary repairs.”

The airline continued, “To better understand how this damage occurred, we’ll also conduct an investigation.”

The incident will be looked into, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

After the plane touched down safely at midday, Judd told CNN in a statement that operations at the Oregon airport were suspended while a safety inspection of the runway was carried out. “Normal operations at MFR resumed a few minutes later after there was no debris found on the airfield,” Judd continued.

The missing panel was found at the same time that United is being investigated for a number of mishaps involving various aircraft, such as a flight that lost a tire after takeoff and an engine that ate bubblewrap and caught fire in midair.

Conclusion

The United Airlines missing panel incident underscores the importance of aircraft safety inspections and proactive measures. Stay vigilant for updates on aviation safety.
