On Saturday, the Trinamool Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The party led by Mamata Banerjee said that on April 26, the day of the election, the CBI carried out “unscrupulous raids at empty locations in the state.
“Complaint against the CBI for carrying out an unscrupulous raid at an empty location in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, on poll day, to tarnish the image of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) during the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections, 2024,” the complaint stated.
“There is no way of knowing with certainty, as to whether these weapons were indeed recovered during the search and seizure procedure or whether they were surreptitiously planted by the CBI/NSG,” it continued.
Regarding this, it is said that even though “law and order” is a domain that entirely falls under the purview of the State Government, the CBI did not give the State Government or the police authority a notice that might be taken to court prior to conducting such a raid. Furthermore, if the CBI had really believed that a bomb squad was necessary during such a raid, the State Police possesses a fully operational bomb disposal unit that could have supported the whole operation,” the statement read.
This comes after the CBI on Friday raided the home of an associate of TMC politician Sheikh Shahjahan, who is now under arrest, in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, and found weapons and ammunition there, including foreign-made firearms and a police service revolver.
The searches were carried out in relation to the mob attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in January, which Sheikh is said to have provoked.
On February 29, Sheikh was taken into custody by the West Bengal police.
According to sources cited by news agency PTI, the home’s owner, Abu Taleb Mollah, is related to Sheikh. However, it remains unclear why such a sizable cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was piled inside the residence.
Later on Friday, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari stated that Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, ought to be taken into custody and that the Trinamool Congress ought to be designated as a “terrorist organization.”
Adhikari added that all of the weapons found were imported.
“Every weapon discovered in Sandeshkhali is an alien weapon. RDX and other explosives are used in horrifying acts of nationalism. International terrorists employ all of these weapons,” Adhikari remarked.
“I request that the Trinamool Congress be designated as a terrorist group. This is a utopia state.
In addition, the Bengal assembly’s Leader of the Opposition claimed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was “fully responsible” for the Sandeshkhali event.
“Mamata Banerjee is fully responsible for this incident, and I demand to arrest her,” he stated.
