Sydney Stabbing: Heroic Police Officer Saves Lives at Bondi Junction Mall Incident

Police in Sydney, Australia, say that following a stabbing rampage in a mall on Saturday, seven people are dead and several more are seriously injured. A lone officer shot the attacker, who was among the dead, and a baby was among the stabbing victims.

At approximately 3:20 p.m. local time (1:20 a.m. ET), according to New South Wales Police Commissioner Anthony Cooke, the assailant entered the Westfield Bondi Junction mall and “caused harm” to approximately nine persons by stabbing them with a weapon he was carrying. A nine-month-old infant was “transported to Sydney Children’s Hospital with a pediatric stab wound,” a New South Wales Ambulance spokesperson told NBC News.

A man outside the mall said in a live interview with 9News Sydney, the local broadcaster, that he assisted a baby after a mother was stabbed. He remarked, “The mother came over with the baby and threw it at me; it looked pretty bad with this hole in the baby.”

Australian ABC TV’s Roi Huberman, a sound engineer, reported to the network that he took refuge in a store throughout the event.
