TFD – The Apprentice, a provocative new film about Donald Trump’s 1980s real estate ventures, starring Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong, has made waves at Cannes. Discover the controversy and anticipation surrounding its US release.

In Short

  • The Apprentice” movie, depicting Donald Trump’s 1980s real estate deals, premiered at Cannes.
  • Stars Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn.
  • Directed by Ali Abbasi, it has drawn both applause and criticism.
  • The film’s US release date is pending without a distributor.

“The Apprentice,” a recently released movie that centers on the real estate transactions of the late President Donald Trump in New York during the 1980s, opened to applause at the Cannes Film Festival and criticism from his campaign.

Five months prior to the presidential election, the movie about the likely Republican contender is released.

According to an official synopsis, the film, which stars Sebastian Stan as a teenage Trump, is a “exploration of power and ambition set in a world of corruption and deceit.

Jeremy Strong, star of “Succession,” co-stars as Roy Cohn, the attorney and fixer that Trump looked up to as a mentor in his early professional life.

“It’s a mentor-protege story that charts the origins of an American dynasty. The synopsis claims that “full of larger-than-life characters, it reveals the moral and human cost of a culture defined by winners and losers.”

The actual competition series Trump starred in is not referenced in the title of “The Apprentice,” which also states that certain elements of the plot are somewhat fabricated. Danish-Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi is the director, and biographer and political writer Gabriel Sherman wrote the script.

“In the time of turmoil, there’s this tendency to look inwards, to sort of bury your head deep in the sand and look inside and hope for the best, hope for the storm to get away,” Abassi told the audience at the movie’s premiere on Monday, according to footage posted online.

However, Abassi went on, “the storm is not going away.” Actually, the storm is approaching. The worst times are to come.”

Abassi continued by saying that “there is no nice metaphorical way to deal with the rising wave of fascism,” which is why he decided to utilize a story about Trump to create a movie “about the world.

“The untidy way and the bland way are the only options. He stated that there is only one way to handle this wave on its own terms and at its own level. “It’s not going to be pretty, but I think the problem with the world is that the good people have been quiet for too long.”

Gabriel Sherman, from left, Maria Bakalova, director Ali Abbasi, Sebastian Stan, and Martin Donovan pose for photographers at the premiere on Monday.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that the movie depicts Trump’s marriage to his first wife, Ivana, and their divorce. There were audible gasps from the audience when the former president was shown having liposuction, according to the publication.

To address the clearly false claims made by these faux filmmakers, we will be bringing a lawsuit. A spokesman for the Trump campaign, Steven Cheung, told CNN, “This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked.” “This ‘film’ is pure malicious defamation, should not see the light of day, and doesn’t even deserve a place in the straight-to-DVD section of a bargain bin at a soon-to-be-closed discount movie store, it belongs in a dumpster fire.”

Playing the late Ivana Trump, who passed away in 2022, is Maria Bakalova. The rest of the cast includes Charlie Carrick, Catherine McNally, and Martin Donovan.

The movie’s premiere date is still pending. IMDb states that “The Apprentice” does not currently have a US distributor.
