Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri informed Parliament that India currently faces no shortage of fuel and that supply chains for petroleum products remain stable across the country.
Addressing concerns amid rising geopolitical tensions affecting Global energy markets, Puri said India has adequate fuel reserves and diversified import sources to meet domestic demand without disruption.
“Diesel, petrol, and kerosene are all readily available. Their availability is fully assured and supply networks across the country are functioning normally,” the minister said during the parliamentary session.
Adequate Fuel Stocks Across the Country
According to the minister, India’s fuel supply position remains stable and comfortable, with sufficient inventory levels to meet both current consumption and potential supply disruptions.
Government officials emphasized that oil marketing companies maintain strategic reserves and operational stocks to ensure that fuel distribution continues smoothly even during global supply uncertainties.
| Fuel Product | Current Availability Status |
|---|---|
| Petrol | Fully available nationwide |
| Diesel | Supply chains operating normally |
| Kerosene | Adequate stocks available |
| LPG | Domestic supply fully secured |
LPG Supply Remains Protected
Puri also addressed concerns regarding liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) availability, assuring lawmakers that household LPG supply remains fully protected.
The government has prioritised domestic LPG distribution to ensure that households continue receiving cylinders without interruption, even as global energy markets experience volatility.
Despite disruptions in international shipping routes and rising crude oil prices, the minister said India’s domestic LPG supply system remains secure.
Diversification of Energy Imports
The minister highlighted that India has significantly diversified its energy import sources over the past few years to reduce dependence on any single region.
Earlier, more than 60% of India’s LPG imports came from Gulf countries. However, the government has expanded sourcing options to strengthen Energy Security and reduce vulnerability to regional disruptions.
| Energy Security Measures | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Diversified crude oil imports | Reduce dependence on specific regions |
| Strategic petroleum reserves | Provide emergency fuel stockpiles |
| Multiple LPG sourcing partners | Ensure uninterrupted domestic supply |
Global Energy Markets Under Pressure
The minister’s assurance comes at a time when geopolitical tensions in key energy-producing regions have triggered volatility in global oil markets.
Rising crude oil prices and disruptions to international shipping routes have raised concerns in several countries about potential supply shortages.
However, the Indian government maintains that its energy supply network remains resilient due to diversified imports, sufficient reserves, and robust domestic distribution systems.
Government Monitoring Global Situation
Officials said the government is closely monitoring developments in global energy markets and will take necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply across the country.
The ministry has also been coordinating with oil marketing companies, refineries, and international suppliers to maintain steady fuel availability and prevent disruptions to consumers.
For now, the government has reassured citizens that there is no need for concern regarding fuel availability, as India’s supply chains remain stable and well-prepared to handle external shocks.
