    NIRF Rankings Research Category 2025: India‘s top research institutions are highlighted in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, which was announced by the Ministry of Education on September 4. The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, was ranked as the top research institute in the nation by this yearly list. IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay were next in line. This is a list of all the best Indian universities according to the NIRF’s 10th edition rankings.

    The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is ranked fifth in the NIRF 2025 Research Rankings, ahead of IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, Homi Bhabha National Institute, IIT Roorkee, and the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR).

    IISc Bengaluru topped the 2024 rankings in the research category, with IIT Madras and IIT Delhi coming in second and third, respectively.

    Overall, SDGs institutes, universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and related sectors, open universities, skill universities, and state public universities are among the 17 categories in which this year’s rankings have been made public.

    With nine IITs, including IIT Roorkee, on the list, the NIRF 2025 engineering rankings demonstrate the IITs’ dominance. Southern universities like NIT Tiruchirappalli, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Madras are still making inroads as top engineering schools in India.

    Weighted criteria that differ by category but generally address teaching, learning, and resources; research and professional practice; graduation outcomes; outreach and diversity; and peer perception are used to produce the NIRF rankings.
