A judge ruled Wednesday that a man accused of shooting a “American Idol” music supervisor and her husband dead in their Los Angeles home will be subject to a Mental health evaluation to ascertain whether he is competent to stand trial.
The 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian did not enter a plea and was scheduled to be arraigned in a Los Angeles courthouse. While a doctor assesses his competency, a judge halted the criminal proceedings against him.
He faces two murder charges in connection with the July 10 burglary that killed veteran “American Idol” producer Robin Kaye and her 70-year-old husband Thomas Deluca, who were murdered as they unexpectedly returned home.
After reviewing the evaluation, a judge in a mental health court will choose whether Boodarian will go to trial or be admitted to a state institution.
In the courtroom’s detention area, Boodarian stood behind a window and seemed to make an effort to blend in.
The district attorney’s office did not immediately respond, and his lawyer declined to comment.

In the same small courthouse on Hollywood Boulevard where a guy accused of stalking Jennifer Aniston and ramming into her front gate was recently ruled not able to stand trial, Boodarian will also be evaluated.
Kaye and Deluca’s home in the Encino suburb of Los Angeles was broken into, according to the police, who reacted to a 911 call. According to the police, they left after finding no evidence of forced entry or other issues.
Officers doing a welfare check at the residence discovered the couple’s bodies four days later, shot to death. Boodarian was arrested the following day.
In a subsequent community meeting, District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that detectives think the couple came home unexpectedly when Boodarian was breaking and entering. Hochman claimed that after shooting them with their own firearm, he made his own 911 call.
At the time of her death, Kaye, who had been a member of “American Idol” for almost 15 years, was working on the next season of the popular singing competition television show. Additionally, she had contributed to the music departments of a number of other projects, such as “The Singing Bee,” “Hollywood Game Night,” “Lip Sync Battle,” and other pageants including Miss USA and Miss Universe.
