Joy Bhattacharjya, the former franchise Director of Shah Rukh’s IPL franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has presented a number of examples showing how the superstar is a brilliant businessman in addition to being a fantastic marketer.
Joy remembered in an interview with the YouTube channel Quizzitok that Shah Rukh never turned to micromanaging the team, even though KKR was having a rough time in the early years of the IPL. Instead, he spoke solely to players who needed support and let the pros do their jobs.
He also disclosed that, because to Shah Rukh’s astute financial acumen, only KKR was profitable from the start out of all the IPL teams. Joy responded, “KKR was the first team that went profitable from the very first season,” when asked why the team is still among Shah Rukh Khan’s most lucrative business ventures. When sponsors purchased sponsorship for KKR, they paid X for KKR and another X for Shah Rukh Khan to appear in the commercial. This had an impact, and he was outstanding.
Joy also acknowledged Shah Rukh’s exceptional commercial acumen and talent for fostering relationships. “I will demonstrate his exceptional marketing skills for you. A specific watch was meant to feature in his 2008 film Om Shanti Om, but at the last minute, the worldwide sanction didn’t arrive in time, so Shah Rukh included their product in the movie for free.
“They were the first brand to sign up when KKR came on later,” he continued. Having a well-known global watch brand also makes other brands feel like they’re in excellent company. Shah Rukh was very wise, had excellent relationships, and managed well. In the meantime, other teams were having trouble raising money. He made certain that KKR always had that one item.
