Day 1 Box office Collection for The Bengal Files: Vivek Agnihotri’s eagerly awaited movie The Bengal Files finally debuted on Friday, but the first day’s receipts have fallen well short of projections. Early projections from industry tracker Sacnilk indicate that the political thriller made approximately Rs 1.75 crore (India net) on its opening day.
In comparison to Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files, which made Rs 3.55 crore on its first day and went on to become a huge box office blockbuster, this performance is noticeably lackluster. Expectations were significantly greater because The Bengal Files is the last installment in Agnihotri’s “Files Trilogy,” which examines delicate moments in contemporary Indian history and includes a large number of the same main actors as The Kashmir Files.
On its first day of release, the movie’s overall occupancy rate in India was 21.24%. After starting weakly at 15.08% in the morning, morning programs witnessed a little increase to 18.58% in the afternoon. Occupancies for evening and night concerts improved even further, at 22.08% and 29.20%, respectively. Mumbai (20.75%) and Delhi-NCR (21.75%) did not experience higher occupancy rates either.
Even when compared to other recent releases, the film, which starred Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumar in the key parts, has not done well. For example, Sonu Sood’s first film as director, Fateh, made Rs 2.45 crore on its first day of release. With Rs 2.75 crore, Himesh Reshammiya’s meta-spoof Badass Ravikumar did much better.

Nevertheless, compared to lesser-known or less well-received releases, The Bengal Files has performed admirably. Tanvi the Great, the last film directed and starring Anupam Kher, only made Rs 40 lakh on its first day of release. It has also fared better than other recent films like Superboys of Malegaon (Rs 50 lakh), Loveyapa (Rs 1.15 crore), and Sooraj Pancholi’s comeback vehicle Kesari Veer (Rs 25 lakh), all posted significantly much lower numbers.
The movie is also up against fierce competition from other major multilingual releases. Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 4 made about Rs 12 crore on its debut day, while the Hollywood horror sequel The Conjuring: Last Rites made about Rs 18 crore. At the same time, the Malayalam hit Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra has amassed an incredible Rs 62.45 crore at the domestic box office.
The Bengal Files’ future now primarily rests on word-of-mouth and the resolution of the continuing issues surrounding its publication. According to reports, there has been opposition to the film’s release, especially in West Bengal. Director Vivek Agnihotri claims that theater owners were pressured not to show the movie.
