After the government banned ALTT, ULLU, and 23 other OTT applications for having pornographic content, Ektaa Kapoor issued a statement. She said on Instagram in her lengthy message that she and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, had no affiliation with ALTT, as they terminated their relationship with the platform in June 2021.
“Listed on the BSE and NSE, Balaji Telefilms Limited is a professionally run media organization. Following the recent amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (previously its wholly owned subsidiary), duly approved by the Hon’ble NCLT, it operates ALTT wef June 20, 2025 (sic),” she posted on Instagram.

The TV czarina also clarified that neither she nor her mother, Shobha, is connected with ALTT. “There have been rumors in the media that ALTT has been shut down by the government, but Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor have resigned their affiliation with ALTT in June 2021 and are not connected to the organization in any manner. Any implication that goes against the facts mentioned above is categorically refuted, and the media is asked to present the truth (sic).
“Balaji Telefilms Limited is fully compliant with all applicable laws and continues to operate its business with the highest standards of corporate governance (sic),” she said.
Official sources claim that the decision was made after it was discovered that these platforms were hosting and disseminating what authorities referred to as “soft porn,” in violation of the nation’s IT Rules and current obscenity laws.
The apps were purportedly disseminating pornographic information under the pretense of “erotic web series” without proper content regulation, according to several complaints and concerns that were addressed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The goal of the prohibition is to make sure that digital content stays within the confines of decency and the law, as well as to reduce the easy access to pornographic material, especially for youngsters.
