A new season of Bigg Boss begins today (August 24), marking the return of superstar salman khan to the small screen. JioHotstar will debut Bigg Boss 19, and Colors will air it later. For the show, which has been a mainstay of primetime TV for almost 20 years, this OTT-first strategy is groundbreaking. Due to its popularity, Endemol, the business that supports the show, makes a significant amount of money from it. This has made Salman Khan the highest-earning personality on TV, taking home in excess of ₹200 crore per season in the past. However, if reports are to be believed, the actor has taken a pay cut this season.
Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 19 fees
Salman Khan is reportedly charging ₹10 crore per weekend to host Bigg Boss this season. Salman is only expected to host the program for a little more than three months this time around, though. Salman will host Bigg Boss for 15 weeks, according to a Times Now report. Accordingly, the celebrity will receive ₹150 crore for this season. Surprisingly, this is less than the ₹250 crore that Salman earned for hosting Bigg Boss 18, and even less than the ₹200 crore he earned for Bigg Boss 17.
The cause of Salman’s ‘salary cut’
After 15 weeks, Salman is supposed to turn over hosting responsibilities to guest hosts, with names like Karan Johar and Farah Khan making the rounds. In past seasons, both filmmakers have stepped in for Salman. The main cause of Salman’s lower fees this season is the decrease in hosting responsibilities. Had he hosted the full season, his salary would have been at par with what he earned in Bigg Boss 18.
