In the Nadia area of West Bengal, a BJP worker was killed by beatings after he broke up a dispute between residents. Sanjay Bhowmick, the victim, was attacked inside his house after being pursued. He passed away on Friday from his wounds.
Bhowmick was on his way home Thursday night when he saw a group of young men fighting. Reports state that the men turned their wrath on Bhowmick after he tried to mediate the situation.
Despite seeking refuge inside his own house, the assailants chased and thrashed him inside the premises.
Bhowmick suffered severe injuries in the incident and was sent to the Nabadwip State General Hospital. He received care, but his injuries ultimately led to his death.
To ascertain the precise cause of death, authorities have submitted his body for a post-mortem study.
Local BJP leaders gathered at the hospital as soon as word of Bhowmick’s passing circulated.
They criticized “Trinamool Congress-backed miscreants” for the attack and voiced their deep outrage over the death.
Representatives from the BJP asserted “that such incidents have become rampant in the area”
The claims that the attack had political motivations were also supported by Bhowmick’s relatives.
“He only attempted to mediate the fight for humanitarian reasons and did not deserve to die,” stated his sister, Swati Chakraborty.
The event is being investigated by the police. No one has been arrested as of yet.
As emotions simmer, law enforcement has stepped up patrols in Nadia to keep the peace and stop more disturbances.
