Bengaluru police have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly cheating, sexually exploiting a woman, and stealing nearly ₹20 lakh in cash along with 200 grams of Gold, officials said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Shubham Shukla, was taken into custody by the Bagalgunte police following a complaint filed by the victim. Police said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
According to investigators, Shukla initially befriended the victim’s younger sister and allegedly sexually molested her. Using this connection, he later gained access to the family and targeted the elder sister.
Police said the accused persuaded the woman to lie to her parents by claiming she was moving to Mumbai for business. Instead, he allegedly convinced her to enter into a live-in relationship, and the couple lived together in Bengaluru for nearly three years.
During this period, Shukla is accused of exploiting the relationship and stealing around ₹20 lakh in cash and 200 grams of gold belonging to the woman.
The victim later discovered that Shukla was already married. Despite allegedly promising to divorce his wife, police said he continued to physically and psychologically abuse the woman on a daily basis.
After managing to escape the abusive relationship, the victim approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.
Following his arrest, Shukla was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Police said further investigation into the case is ongoing.
