New Delhi: On the auspicious occasion of Diwali 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation through an open letter, invoking the spirit of righteousness and unity. He praised Operation Sindoor for upholding India’s moral fabric and delivering justice after the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a shining example of the nation’s resolve to safeguard peace and security.
“Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s unwavering commitment to defending morality and justice,” the Prime Minister wrote. Referring to the operation, which took place from May 7 to May 10, Modi said it embodied the same virtues of courage and dharma that Lord Shri Ram symbolizes in the epic Ramayana.
‘A Diwali of Hope and Change Across India’
PM Modi noted that this year’s Diwali is “especially significant,” as lamps will be lit in numerous districts, including those that were once affected by Naxalism and Maoist insurgency. “These are districts where extremism has been completely eradicated from the roots,” he wrote, describing it as a triumph of peace, governance, and inclusive development.
He lauded the growing trend of individuals leaving the path of violence to embrace the mainstream of progress and development, calling it a “major achievement for the nation.”
India as a Symbol of Stability and Sensitivity
Highlighting India’s evolving global stature, the Prime Minister said that the nation has emerged as a beacon of both stability and sensitivity amid turbulent global conflicts. He reiterated India’s goal of becoming the world’s third-largest economy soon, urging every citizen to actively participate in building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and an Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).
“Our foremost duty as citizens is to contribute to the nation’s progress,” he wrote, emphasizing collective responsibility and discipline as key pillars of national growth.
GST 2.0: A Reform for Everyday Indians
Discussing economic reforms, PM Modi referred to the rollout of GST 2.0 on the first day of Navratri, calling it a “next-generation reform” aimed at simplifying the taxation structure and reducing the cost of essential goods. The revised system eliminated the 12% and 28% tax slabs, consolidating them into a more practical two-tier GST framework with 5% and 18% rates.
“The nation is celebrating a ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ (Savings Festival),” he noted, highlighting how citizens are collectively saving thousands of crores due to these changes.
Promoting Swadeshi, Yoga, and Healthy Living
In his message, the Prime Minister urged citizens to prioritize Swadeshi products, cleanliness, and health. “Let us promote the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” he said, encouraging people to support local artisans and embrace sustainable lifestyles.
“Let’s respect all languages, keep our surroundings clean, focus on health, and embrace Yoga. Reducing oil consumption by just 10% in our diets can make a big difference. Every such step takes us closer to a Viksit Bharat,” he added.
Lighting Lamps of Harmony and Positivity
Drawing on Diwali’s spiritual symbolism, PM Modi compared the festival’s lamps to the spread of positivity and cooperation in society. “When one lamp lights another, the first lamp’s light does not diminish-it only multiplies,” he wrote. “With this same spirit, let us light lamps of harmony, cooperation, and positivity across the nation this Diwali.”
PM Modi’s Message on X: ‘Support Local, Think Positive’
Earlier, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister extended his Diwali greetings to all citizens, writing: “Greetings on the occasion of Diwali. May this festival of lights bring peace, joy, and prosperity into our lives. May we all be surrounded with a positive attitude.”
He also appealed to citizens to buy Swadeshi products and support local craftsmen and small-scale industries during the festive season, reinforcing the vision of a self-reliant and prosperous India.
Conclusion: Diwali as a Symbol of New India’s Resolve
As the nation celebrates Diwali with renewed energy and optimism, PM Modi’s letter serves as both a reflection and a roadmap-celebrating India’s victories like Operation Sindoor and the defeat of Naxalism, while reminding citizens of their duty toward unity, self-reliance, and progress. His message blends the essence of cultural tradition with the vision of a modern, powerful, and Viksit Bharat.
