Uttar Pradesh Police have solved a chilling murder case in Sambhal district in which a woman and her lover allegedly killed her husband, dismembered his body, and attempted to dispose of the remains to evade detection. The accused — the victim’s wife Ruby and her partner Gaurav — were arrested after crucial forensic clues exposed the crime.
The case came to light on December 15 when Chandausi Kotwali police recovered a badly decomposed torso stuffed inside a black bag from behind an Idgah on Patroua Road. The body was missing its head and limbs, making identification extremely difficult.
During forensic examination, investigators noticed a tattoo bearing the name “Rahul” on the torso. This became the first major breakthrough, prompting police to search missing persons records in the district.
Police soon discovered that on November 24, a woman named Ruby, residing in Chunni Mohalla under the same police station jurisdiction, had filed a missing complaint for her husband Rahul.
Ruby was called in for identification but denied that the recovered torso belonged to her husband. However, investigators grew suspicious due to contradictions in her statements and her visible nervousness during questioning.
The investigation took a decisive turn when police examined Ruby’s mobile phone. Officers found photographs showing Ruby with another man wearing the same T-shirt that had been recovered with the torso. The clothing match became a critical piece of evidence.
Confronted with the photographic proof, Ruby broke down and confessed to the crime. She revealed that she was having an affair with a local man named Gaurav.
According to her confession, Ruby had called Gaurav to her home on the night of November 17–18. Rahul unexpectedly returned home around 2 am and discovered them together, leading to a heated argument. During the confrontation, Ruby allegedly struck Rahul on the head with a heavy object, killing him.
Body Dismembered to Destroy Evidence
In an attempt to conceal the murder, Ruby and Gaurav allegedly planned to dispose of the body. The next day, Gaurav arranged a cutting machine, which they used to separate Rahul’s head, arms, and legs. Ruby later purchased two large black bags for disposal.
Police said the accused placed the head and limbs in one bag and dumped it into the Ganga river near Rajghat, approximately 50 kilometres from Chandausi. The torso was placed in another bag and abandoned behind the Idgah on Patroua Road.
Missing Report Filed to Mislead Police
To divert suspicion, Ruby filed a missing person report for Rahul on November 24, several days after the murder.
Following her confession, police recovered the cutting machine and other incriminating evidence from the accused’s residence. Forensic teams also found signs indicating that the body had been dismembered inside the house.
Tattoo and T-Shirt Broke the Case
Police officials stated that the tattoo on the torso and the photographs found on Ruby’s phone showing Rahul wearing the same T-shirt recovered with the body were the key elements that cracked the case.
Both Ruby and Gaurav have been taken into custody. Police are continuing efforts to recover the remaining body parts and complete forensic and legal procedures.
The brutal nature of the crime and the attempt to mislead authorities have shocked Sambhal, while also highlighting how meticulous investigation and forensic evidence can unravel even the most carefully planned crimes.
