Doctor watches YouTube during surgery, cuts patient’s intestines; woman dies in Uttar Pradesh

In a shocking case from Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district, a woman died after a self-proclaimed doctor attempted to remove her kidney stones by following a YouTube video during surgery. The man, who reportedly had no medical qualifications, performed the procedure while intoxicated, causing severe internal damage that led to the woman’s death. A criminal case has now been registered against the quack doctor and his associate.

According to reports, Munishra Rawat had been experiencing intense abdominal pain on December 5. Her husband, Fateh Bahadur, took her to Shri Damodar Aushadhalaya — an unregistered and illegal clinic allegedly operated by Gyan Prakash Mishra and Vivek Mishra. Upon examination, Gyan Prakash falsely claimed that the pain was caused by kidney stones and recommended surgery for Rs 25,000, later negotiating the amount to Rs 20,000.

The next day, Prakash prepared for the operation and began cutting the woman’s abdomen while watching a YouTube surgery video for guidance. Police said he was heavily intoxicated during the procedure and ended up making deep, improper incisions, severing several vital nerves and tissues. Despite the botched surgery, the kidney stones were not removed. Munishra died the following day due to unbearable internal injuries.

Instead of informing the family or authorities, the clinic operators allegedly fled, leaving the deceased woman behind.

After the victim’s husband filed a complaint, police arrived at the scene and sealed the illegal establishment. The woman’s body was sent for post-mortem examination. A case under the SC/ST Act and charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against accused Gyan Prakash Mishra and Vivek Mishra.

Senior police officer Amit Singh Bhaduria said, “We inspected the unauthorized clinic after learning of the incident. A notice has been issued, and the premises have been shut down. The accused are absconding but will be arrested soon.”
