From August 25, India Post will stop booking all kinds of commodities for the US, with the exception of letters, papers, and gifts up to $100 USD.

In response to modifications to US duty regulations that take effect later this month, the Department of Posts has declared that it will temporarily cease accepting the majority of postal consignments to the US on August 25.

On July 30, the US issued an order eliminating the duty-free exemption for items up to USD 800. Under the International Emergency Economic Power Act (IEEPA) tariff system, all postal goods sent to the United States starting August 29 will be subject to customs taxes, regardless of their value. Gifts up to $100 USD will not be subject to duty.

The ruling states that the only parties authorized by US Customs to collect and pay customs on postal packages are foreign carriers and other “qualified parties.” However, airlines have stated that they will not be permitted to transport postal packages headed for the United States after August 25 because to the unclear process for authorizing these parties and establishing duty collection.

Accordingly, starting on August 25, India Post will stop booking any kind of article for the US, with the exception of letters, documents, and gifts up to $100 USD.

Customers who have previously reserved packages that cannot be shipped can get a postage refund, according to the Department of Posts.

According to the statement, “The Department of Posts sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused to customers and guarantees that every effort is being made to resume full services to the USA as soon as possible.”

India is not the only country that has stopped shipping. According to news agency Reuters, postal companies in Scandinavia, Austria, France, and Belgium have also suspended package delivery to the US in anticipation of the rule change.

Standard US-bound packages will no longer be accepted by Deutsche Post DHL’s German parcel service as of August 25. However, the company’s premium DHL Express service will continue to operate as usual. Gifts under $100 can still be sent by private customers, but these shipments will be subject to more stringent inspections to guard against abuse.
