Jiban Krishna Saha, an MLA for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was allegedly apprehended on Monday while trying to leave his home as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched several places connected to him in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
Officials claim that the searches are a component of the agency’s continuing inquiry into purported anomalies in West Bengal’s school recruiting procedure. TMC leader Jiban Krishna Saha’s Burwan home and his in-laws’ Raghunathganj assets are presently being searched by ED teams.
The MLA apparently attempted to escape after hearing about the raid by scaling his home’s border wall, but he was caught by ED officers and central forces in a nearby muddy agricultural field.
Saha allegedly threw his cell phone into a pond close to his house in an attempt to erase any possible evidence, according to news agency PTI. Officials assert that both of his phones have been found and will be subjected to forensic examination.
Furthermore, searches were carried out at the Birbhum district residence of the personal assistant to the TMC leader.
According to the PTI report, the raids began when the ED learned of a financial transaction connected to a Birbhum resident who later joined the team for the investigation.
The agency has previously questioned Saha’s wife in relation to the scheme. For the same reason, the MLA was detained by the CBI in April 2023 and released on bail in May 2025.
The ED is looking into the money laundering part of the school recruiting scandal, while the CBI is looking into its criminal components.
The TMC leader will be taken to Kolkata, where he is expected to be produced before a special ED court.
