In a disturbing case that has sparked outrage across Gujarat’s Education community, an 18-year-old Class 12 student allegedly slapped a female teacher after being questioned for arriving late to a crucial preliminary examination. The incident, which took place at a school in Panchmahal district, was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral, intensifying calls for stricter action to protect teachers.
According to police officials, the incident occurred on January 24 at SJ Dave High School in Shehra town. The student, identified as Mohammed Khan Ansari, arrived late for the second preliminary examination for Class 12 Students. When a female invigilator questioned him about his delay, the situation quickly escalated.
Eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage reportedly show the student reacting aggressively. He allegedly told the teacher, “No one questions me at home, so who are you to question me?” before slapping her on the cheek. Police said the student then pushed the teacher and walked out of the classroom, leaving staff and students stunned.
The assault, recorded by the school’s surveillance cameras, spread rapidly on Social Media, triggering widespread condemnation from teachers, parents, and the public. Many educators described the incident as a clear indicator of declining respect for teachers and growing safety risks within school premises.
Later that same day, the accused student’s father reportedly met Vipul Pathak, the in-charge principal of the school, along with the assaulted teacher, and expressed regret over his son’s behavior. However, the matter did not end there.
According to the police complaint, tensions flared again on January 27 when the student allegedly returned to the school accompanied by his father and a group of around 15 to 20 people. The group is accused of intimidating the teacher and issuing threats. Police stated that the teacher was warned that she lived alone in the town and was allegedly threatened with harm, further aggravating the situation.
Following the teacher’s formal complaint, an FIR was registered on February 3 at the Shehra police station. The case names the student, four identified individuals, and 15 to 20 unidentified persons under relevant sections of the law. As of now, police have taken three accused into custody, while further investigation is underway.
Inspector Ankur Chaudhary confirmed that investigators carried out a reconstruction of the incident in the presence of the teacher to establish the sequence of events. He clarified that the reconstruction followed standard legal procedure and that the accused were not publicly paraded during the process.
The student was later produced before a court and was granted bail on Friday. The accused, however, has claimed that he returned to the school with others only to apologize to the teacher and school authorities, a claim that is being examined as part of the investigation.
The incident has triggered strong reactions from teachers across Panchmahal district, who have demanded strict and exemplary action against those responsible. Educators have also urged authorities to take firm steps against anyone who supports or encourages such violent behavior against teachers.
Police officials have stated that the case remains under active investigation and that further action will be taken based on evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements. The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need to ensure safety, respect, and discipline within educational institutions.
