In the course of the next day, US President Donald Trump has stated that he may’substantially’ increase tariffs on India. Trump’s most recent remarks follow his pledge to increase taxes on India for acquiring Russian oil and other military supplies.
Trump reaffirmed his assertion that India imposes the highest taxes on US goods worldwide in an interview with CNBC.
Since they do a lot of business with us but we don’t do business with them, India hasn’t been a good trading partner. We decided on 25 percent, but Trump stated, “I believe I’m going to raise that rate fairly substantially in the next 24 hours.”
“They are supporting the war machine by purchasing Russian oil. Additionally, the US president stated, “I will not be pleased if they do that.”

Trump’s ultimatum against India was criticized by Russia earlier Tuesday, which said that such remarks against Russian trading partners will be seen as “threats” against Moscow.
The Indian government responded to Trump’s warning with a forceful statement, calling the US’ threats “unjustified and unreasonable.”
India also pointed up its trade agreements with Russia in the Ministry of External Affairs’ official statement, accusing the US and EU of targeting New Delhi.
The goal of India’s imports is to give Indian consumers predictable and reasonably priced energy costs. They are required by the state of the global market,” MEA stated.
The fact that the same countries that are criticizing India are also engaging in commerce with Russia, however, is illuminating. Such trade is not even an essential national compulsion, unlike our situation,” the official statement continued.
In response to India’s high prices for US goods and as a punishment for New Delhi’s close relations to Russia and membership in BRICS, Trump levied a 25 percent tariff on India ahead of his August 1 deadline.
