In a shocking daylight robbery in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district, two masked men looted a jewellery shop at gunpoint, firing shots during the heist and injuring a local resident. The entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, police sources said.
According to preliminary information, the robbers arrived on a motorcycle and targeted a jewellery store owned by Mahadrudra Kanchagar. Both accused were reportedly dressed in black jackets, gloves, and helmets to conceal their identities and were armed with country-made pistols.
After entering the shop, the robbers threatened staff and customers at gunpoint, forcing them to comply. They then proceeded to loot Gold ornaments kept inside the showroom. CCTV footage from the area shows the accused carrying out the robbery swiftly before making their escape.
During the course of the crime, the robbers fired two rounds into the air, creating panic in the crowded locality. Tragically, one of the bullets struck a young local resident, identified as Atmaling Hoogar, in his right leg.
The injured youth was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have said his condition is stable.
Eyewitnesses also reported that the accused threatened an elderly woman who had entered the shop, warning her to leave the premises immediately before fleeing the scene.
After committing the robbery, the armed men escaped towards the Maharashtra border, prompting authorities to alert neighboring districts.
Local police teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. Officers have secured the area and are examining CCTV footage from multiple angles to identify the suspects and track their escape route.
“A special investigation team has been formed, and a manhunt is underway to trace and arrest the accused at the earliest,” a senior police official said.
Further investigation is ongoing, and police have assured strict action against those involved in the armed robbery.
