Late on Friday night, panic gripped a busy residential-commercial stretch of Jaipur after a speeding Audi car lost control and ploughed into pedestrians and roadside vendors. The violent incident, which unfolded within seconds, left one person dead and at least sixteen others injured, several of them seriously.

The accident occurred near Kharabas Circle in the Journalist Colony area, a locality that remains active even late at night due to street vendors and small kiosks. According to eyewitness accounts, the luxury car was travelling at an extremely high speed when it first rammed into a road divider before veering sharply toward the roadside.

For nearly 30 metres, the out-of-control vehicle mowed through handcarts, makeshift stalls, and vendors’ setups, crushing everything that came in its path. “It was coming at a terrifying speed. People screamed and ran for their lives,” said an eyewitness, adding that the casualties could have been far worse had people not scattered in time.

The force of the impact was such that more than a dozen carts and kiosks were completely overturned. A parked car was also hit with tremendous force and flipped onto its side, underlining the severity of the crash. The area, usually bustling at night, was left strewn with debris, broken carts, scattered goods, and injured people crying out for help.

Police teams from Journalist Colony and Muhana police stations rushed to the spot and immediately began rescue operations. All the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials confirmed that four victims were discharged after receiving first aid, while twelve others remain admitted at SMS Hospital and Jaipuria Hospital, where they are undergoing further medical care.

Muhana SHO Gurubhupendra Singh said preliminary findings point toward reckless driving. “The Audi was being driven at a very high speed. There is a strong suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol,” he stated. The vehicle has been seized, and a detailed investigation is currently underway.

Senior state authorities were promptly informed about the incident. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma directed Jaipur district officials and hospital administrations to ensure immediate and proper medical treatment for all the injured victims.

Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa, who visited and inspected the crash site, confirmed that four people were inside the Audi at the time of the incident. “One person died after being run over by the vehicle,” he said, adding that one of the occupants has been taken into police custody while the injured continue to receive treatment.

According to police officials, the accused individuals are residents of Jaipur. Further action will be taken once the investigation is completed, including analysis of CCTV footage, forensic examination of the vehicle, and medical reports to determine intoxication and responsibility for the fatal crash.
