According to an official statement, the discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in capacity building and development partnerships.
News agency PTI reported that the leaders are also expected to explore deeper collaboration in health, education, science and technology, energy, infrastructure, as well as emerging areas such as renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy.
“The Varanasi Summit will mark an important milestone in the shared journey of India and Mauritius towards mutual prosperity, sustainable development, and a secure and inclusive future,” the release added.
Ramgoolam arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday, with his week-long state visit scheduled to conclude on September 16.
Earlier in March, during PM Modi’s visit to Mauritius, the two nations upgraded their relationship to an ‘enhanced strategic partnership’ and signed eight agreements across key sectors including maritime security and local currency trade.
During that visit, PM Modi also unveiled India’s new Global South vision, “MAHASAGAR” — an acronym for “Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.” The initiative is aimed at promoting regional security and growth, particularly in the Indian Ocean, where China has been expanding its influence.
