PM Modi Urges ‘Team India’ Approach, Rules Out Lockdown Amid Iran War Impact

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on all states to function as “Team India” to tackle the domestic impact of the ongoing Iran war, while clearly ruling out the possibility of any nationwide lockdown. The appeal comes as global tensions continue to disrupt energy supplies and trade routes, creating uncertainty across economies.

During a high-level virtual meeting with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors, the Prime Minister emphasised the need for coordinated action between the Centre and states to ensure stability in essential sectors such as energy, trade, and supply chains.

He described the current global situation as “dynamic and uncertain,” urging authorities to remain vigilant and proactive in managing emerging challenges.

Focus on Energy Security and Economic Stability

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of maintaining uninterrupted supplies of fuel, essential commodities, and industrial inputs. He stressed that safeguarding India’s economic stability must remain a top priority amid disruptions caused by tensions in West Asia.

States were advised to closely monitor supply chains, ensure smooth logistics, and support industries that may be affected by rising input costs or shortages.

Learning from COVID-19: Revival of ‘Team India’ Model

Drawing parallels with the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Modi recalled how coordinated efforts between the Centre and states helped India manage supply chains and essential services during a global crisis. He noted that similar cooperation is crucial in the current situation.

He reiterated that regular communication and joint decision-making played a vital role during the pandemic and encouraged states to maintain the same level of coordination moving forward.

No Shortage of Fuel, PM Assures Public

Addressing concerns over potential shortages, the Prime Minister assured that India has sufficient stocks of petrol, diesel, and LPG. He urged authorities to communicate this clearly to the public in order to prevent panic buying and unnecessary hoarding.

He firmly dismissed speculation about an “energy lockdown,” stating that there is no plan to impose restrictions on fuel usage across the country.

Strict Measures Against Hoarding and Misinformation

The Prime Minister directed states to take strict action against hoarding, black marketing, and profiteering in essential goods. He emphasised the importance of keeping supply systems efficient and transparent.

He also warned against the spread of misinformation, noting that false rumours could create unnecessary panic among citizens. Authorities were instructed to ensure timely dissemination of accurate information.

Special Attention to Coastal and Border States

Given the strategic importance of maritime trade routes, particularly in the context of disruptions in West Asia, the Prime Minister advised coastal and border states to remain on high alert.

He stressed the need to closely monitor shipping operations, port activities, and the movement of essential commodities to avoid disruptions.

Focus on Agriculture and Essential Supplies

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of advance planning in the agriculture sector. He instructed states to ensure adequate availability and storage of fertilizers and other inputs to prevent disruptions in farming activities.

Maintaining continuity in agricultural production was identified as a key factor in ensuring food security during uncertain global conditions.

Support Systems for Indians in West Asia

PM Modi called for the establishment of dedicated support systems for Indian citizens living in West Asia. States were asked to activate control rooms at both state and district levels to provide assistance and information to affected families.

He also recommended setting up helplines and appointing nodal officers to ensure quick response and coordination in case of emergencies.

Long-Term Strategy: Boost Domestic Energy and Alternatives

Looking beyond immediate challenges, the Prime Minister urged states to promote domestic production of oil and natural gas, as well as accelerate the adoption of alternative energy sources such as solar power and biofuels.

Strengthening energy independence was highlighted as a long-term solution to reduce vulnerability to global disruptions.

Call for Unity Amid Prolonged Global Uncertainty

In his address to the Lok Sabha, PM Modi reiterated that the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran could persist for an extended period. He urged the nation to remain united and prepared for evolving challenges.

The Prime Minister’s message reinforced the importance of collective responsibility, stating that India’s strength lies in its ability to act together during times of crisis.
