Prithvi Shaw Rejects Influencer’s Molestation Allegations as ‘Baseless and Absurd’

Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has strongly denied allegations of molestation made by social media influencer Sapna Gill, calling her claims “baseless, frivolous, and vexatious” in an affidavit filed before a Mumbai court.

In his submission to a municipal court on Monday, Shaw stated that Gill had initiated legal proceedings with the deliberate intent of harassing and defaming him by exploiting his public image and celebrity status.

Background of the Case

The dispute dates back to a 2023 incident at a Mumbai pub, where an altercation reportedly broke out after Gill and her friends insisted on taking selfies with Shaw. Following the incident, Shaw filed a formal complaint, after which Gill was taken into custody.

Gill later alleged that the police failed to register her counter-complaint against Shaw, which included accusations of molestation and outraging her modesty. Through her lawyer, Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh, she approached the Andheri magistrate’s court seeking directions to the police to register an FIR.

In response, the police informed the court that no cognisable offence had been committed by Shaw or others. The magistrate subsequently ordered a fresh inquiry under Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Shaw’s Response

After initially not filing a reply, Shaw submitted his response this week, stating that Gill was “playing the womanhood card” to settle a personal vendetta and to counter the FIR lodged against her.

According to Shaw’s affidavit, Gill relied on “forged, irrelevant, and inadmissible material,” concealed crucial facts, and fabricated events to strengthen her case.

He also accused Gill of attempting to extort money and gain publicity by levelling false and sensational allegations against him.

Gill’s Counter

Reacting to Shaw’s affidavit, Gill’s lawyer Deshmukh dismissed it, claiming that Shaw’s response contained “not a single iota of evidence or alibi” to support his defence.

The matter is now listed for further hearing on March 31, when arguments from both sides will be presented before the court.
