Police have increased security in the area after capturing a pigeon from the RS Pura border area in the Jammu district that was carrying a threat letter to blow up the Jammu train station, according to officials.
Pakistan has been known to send balloons, flags and pigeons to the India side of the International Border (IB) carrying varied messages, but this is the first time that a pigeon carrying a threat letter has been captured, they said.
Given the prevalent danger perceptions and anti-Indian schemes, security agencies are treating the issue seriously.
Around 9 p.m. on August 18, the pigeon, which was thought to be traveling from Pakistan, was captured in the Katmaria neighborhood along the International Border. According to a senior police officer, a chit with a message to blow up the Jammu railway station was discovered connected to its claws.
Sources said that the chit contained a threat message in both Urdu and English that included phrases like “Time has come,” “Kashmir Freedom,” and others, urging the use of an IED to blow up the Jammu railway station.
According to the officials, security agencies are investigating whether it was a well-thought-out conspiracy or an act of mischief.
The military have, however, increased security around the train station and the lines because they don’t want to take any chances. According to the officials, local police are on high alert and dog squads and bomb disposal teams have been sent.
The pigeon may have been specially taught and released from the other side of the border with a warning message attached to its claws, security experts say.
According to an expert, “you have to take such matters seriously.”
