A young woman’s sudden disappearance from a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district triggered widespread panic, superstition, and sensational rumours after her family discovered what appeared to be a five-foot-long snake skin wrapped in clothes on her bed. For several tense hours, villagers whispered that the woman had turned into a “nagin,” until a police investigation revealed a far more human — though equally dramatic — reality.

The incident came to light when the woman failed to step out of her room the following morning. Concerned family members entered her room, only to be confronted by a bizarre sight: a long, sloughed snake skin carefully placed on the bed and covered with clothing. The discovery left them terrified and confused.
