In a shocking crime that has stunned residents of Surat, Gujarat, a 55-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by members of her own family after she objected to an extramarital relationship between her younger son and her elder son’s wife. The victim, identified as Hamida Khatun, was reportedly strangled to death inside her own house. Within hours of the body being discovered, the Surat Crime Branch managed to solve the case and arrest the accused.
According to police investigations, Parvez, the younger son of the victim, was involved in an extramarital affair with Shabana, who is the wife of his elder brother. Authorities revealed that the illicit relationship had been ongoing for some time and had become a major source of tension within the household. Frequent arguments reportedly erupted in the family due to the relationship as well as financial disputes.
Hamida Khatun strongly opposed the relationship between Parvez and Shabana and repeatedly confronted them about it. Her objections allegedly angered the accused and intensified family conflicts. Police said that the situation gradually escalated to the point where the accused began planning to eliminate her.
Investigators believe that Parvez, Shabana, and Shabana’s father Firoz Alam eventually conspired to murder Hamida Khatun in order to silence her objections and end the ongoing family disputes. The alleged murder took place on March 10 at their residence in Surat.
According to police officials, the trio strangled Hamida Khatun to death inside the house. After committing the crime, the accused reportedly kept the body hidden inside the house overnight until March 11. Later, they placed the body inside a plastic sack and disposed of it near a temple in the city in an attempt to avoid suspicion.
In an apparent attempt to mislead investigators, Parvez visited the police station shortly after the murder and filed a Missing Person complaint. He told police that his mother had gone to the market to buy clothes and had not returned home.
The case took a dramatic turn when a body was discovered tied inside a plastic sack on Wednesday morning at around 11 a.m. Surat Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Bhavesh Rozia confirmed that the victim’s hands and legs were tied and she had been strangled to death.
Initially, the case appeared to be an unidentified murder. Police teams along with the Crime Branch began investigating the incident. During the early stages of the investigation, officers discovered that Hamida Khatun had been reported missing by her younger son Parvez on March 10.
This revelation prompted investigators to question both sons of the victim and examine the family home. During a search of the house, police recovered a rope that closely resembled the one used to tie the victim’s hands and legs. This discovery raised suspicion about possible involvement of family members in the crime.
The investigation soon intensified as detectives began to examine inconsistencies in the statements provided by Parvez and Shabana. Their explanations reportedly did not match the evidence collected from the crime scene.
A key breakthrough in the case came when investigators compared the rope used to bind the victim with a similar rope found inside Hamida Khatun’s house. This crucial clue strengthened the suspicion that the murder had been committed by someone within the household.
During sustained interrogation by the Surat Crime Branch, both Parvez and Shabana eventually confessed to their involvement in the crime. The police immediately arrested the two accused from Surat.
However, Shabana’s father Firoz Alam, who allegedly helped carry out the murder and dispose of the body, had fled the city after the crime. Police tracked his movements using technical surveillance and coordinated with the Bihar Special Task Force.
Authorities later arrested Firoz Alam from Patna Railway Station in Bihar, bringing a major breakthrough in the investigation and completing the arrests of all the accused involved in the case.
| Accused | Relationship to Victim | Alleged Role in the Crime |
|---|---|---|
| Parvez | Younger son of Hamida Khatun | Allegedly involved in planning and executing the murder |
| Shabana | Daughter-in-law (wife of elder son) | Allegedly conspired with Parvez and helped commit the murder |
| Firoz Alam | Father of Shabana | Allegedly assisted in the murder and helped dispose of the body |
Police officials stated that Parvez is unmarried and lives with his family in the same house. According to investigators, ongoing disputes over money and Hamida Khatun’s strong objections to the relationship between Parvez and Shabana were the main motives behind the murder.
Investigators also found crucial evidence in the form of CCTV footage. The footage reportedly shows Firoz Alam carrying a white sack containing the victim’s body and disposing of it after the murder. Police described the footage as a significant piece of evidence in the case.
During interrogation, Parvez admitted that he had been in a relationship with his sister-in-law Shabana. Police also revealed another controversial aspect of the investigation. According to authorities, Hamida Khatun allegedly had a long-term relationship with Shabana’s father Firoz Alam, which had often led to heated arguments and tension within the family.
Following the arrests, all three accused — Parvez, Shabana, and Firoz Alam — were taken into custody and legal proceedings have been initiated against them. Police officials said the accused showed no signs of remorse even after being arrested.
The shocking crime has sparked widespread discussion in the local community about family conflicts, illicit relationships, and the tragic consequences that can arise when disputes escalate into violence.
