In the Durg area of Chhattisgarh, a self-described “tantrik” (occult practitioner) has been detained on suspicion of repeatedly raping a 22-year-old lady. Hemant Aggrawal, 41, has been recognized as the accused.
He allegedly deceived the survivor into living with him by promising to lessen her family’s hardships. Hemant has been accused by the woman of sexually abusing her while pretending to be married. She was allegedly coerced by the man using her personal recordings.
Additionally, the survivor has stated that the accused forced her to have several abortions. After learning that he was previously married and had kids, she went back home, according to Bhilai City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Satya Prakash Tiwari.
Following this, Hemant abducted the woman from her home, the official added. The abduction was caught on a CCTV camera. Two days later, on November 21, 2025, the police rescued the survivor and detained the accused.
Hemant was able to get free from police custody, nevertheless. According to CSP Tiwari, there were indications that he was using fictitious identities. While on the run, he also kept shifting where he was.
Hemant avoided location tracking by keeping his cell phone turned off most of the time. To find him, the police conducted a manhunt and used plainclothes officers.
After a tip, he was eventually taken into custody. When Hemant was apprehended, he had come to meet another “tantrik.” After his arrest, the police paraded him in public.
The defendants have been accused of violating several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 64(2)(m) (serial rape), 115(2) (voluntarily causing pain), and 138 (abduction).
