The ruling BJP responded sharply to Congress leader and former home minister P Chidambaram’s claim that “homegrown terrorists” might have been engaged in the Pahalgam terror incident and that “no evidence” has been provided to date that the murderers were from Pakistan.
Later, Rajya Sabha member Chidambaram responded that he was being ridiculed by those who were disseminating false information and only certain portions of his interview.
Just hours before Parliament was scheduled to begin debating Operation Sindoor—India’s reaction to the Pahalgam terror attack—the dispute erupted.
“Once again, the Congress rushes to give a clean chit to Pakistan,” BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya posted on X late Sunday night, with a clip from Chidambaram’s interview to The Quint.
About ten hours after the issue started on Monday morning, Chidambaram wrote on social media: “Trolls are of different kinds and use different tools to spread misinformation.”
“The worst kind is a troll who mutes some words, suppresses the entire recorded interview, and paints the speaker in black,” he continued.

Real-time updates on the Parliament monsoon session: Discussion of Op Sindoor
Chidambaram discussed the handling of the terror attack probe by PM Narendra Modi’s administration in the interview. He claimed that in order for Pakistan to be held accountable on a global scale, proof had to be shown to other nations.
“What has prevented you from capturing [the terrorists]? Why haven’t you even recognized them? “Chidambaram said.”
Two local guys from Kashmir have been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) thus far, and they have reportedly revealed the identity of the three armed men who carried out the attack. The NIA claimed that the terrorists were Pakistani nationals connected to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), but it would not identify them, stating that information would be released “at an appropriate time.”
Karti, Chidambaram’s son, also asked “all those who are trigger happy & jumpy” to watch the entire interview in a post on X. He released a snippet of the interview when his father asked why information was being shared “in bits and pieces by different offices” and why there was “complete silence” on the identity of the assailants.

His father questioned the “complete silence” on the identity of the assailants and the reason behind the information being released “in bits and pieces by different offices,” he posted a clip from the interview.
Malviya of the BJP stated in his X post that “there should be no ambiguity when it comes to national security. However, with the Congress, there never is – they always go above and beyond to protect the enemy.”
