What began as a late-night birthday celebration ended in tragedy on the Ahmedabad Bypass in Udaipur, where a speeding car carrying six friends overturned in the early hours of January 17, killing four people on the spot.
A video recorded moments before the crash shows the driver with a cigarette in hand, loud music playing inside the vehicle, and the speedometer climbing rapidly. The car was seen touching speeds of up to 140 kmph shortly before losing control.
The footage captures the sound of shattering glass, followed by complete darkness — marking the moment the vehicle overturned violently on the road.
The accident took place around 3 am within the jurisdiction of the Savina police station area. Two cars were involved in the collision, both of which were completely mangled due to the impact.
According to sources, six friends were travelling in one of the vehicles. For nearly ten minutes after the crash, survivors inside the car were heard crying for help and pleading for assistance.
By the time local residents and emergency responders reached the spot, four occupants had succumbed to their injuries. Two others were found trapped inside the wreckage, critically injured and moaning in pain.
The driver has been identified as Sher Mohammad. Police sources said he was initially driving between 100 and 120 kmph before accelerating further to around 140 kmph moments before the crash.
The video shows that the collision occurred just one minute and ten seconds after the recording began.
In the footage, one of the passengers seated in the back repeatedly urges the driver to slow down and stop driving at such high speed, but the warnings went unheeded.
The impact instantly turned what was meant to be a birthday celebration into a scene of devastation. Following the crash, cries of pain and desperate calls for help could be heard from inside the wrecked vehicle.
Police confirmed that both vehicles involved in the early-morning collision were completely destroyed due to the force of the crash.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the group had attended a ‘Mehfil-e-Milad’ programme near Nela Talab in the Savina area. They were heading out for tea at a nearby location when the accident occurred.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and possible charges related to reckless driving and negligence.
