Udham Singh Nagar: A woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men inside a moving car in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district on Tuesday, police said. The accused were detained within 24 hours of the survivor lodging a complaint.
The two men, identified as Rahul Das and Furqan, were taken into custody after police registered a case and launched an immediate investigation, officials said.
According to the police, the survivor works at the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIDCUL) industrial complex in Udham Singh Nagar. In her complaint, she stated that the accused intercepted her while she was on her way to work and offered to drop her.
She alleged that instead of taking her to her workplace, the men sexually assaulted her inside the moving vehicle. After the assault, they reportedly dropped her near her office and fled the scene.
District Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manikant Mishra said that a case was registered immediately upon receiving the complaint and swift action was taken.
“The car used in the incident has been recovered from the possession of Rahul Das. Both accused were produced before the court and have been sent to jail,” SSP Mishra said.
Police officials said the arrests were based on the survivor’s statement as well as technical evidence collected during the preliminary investigation.
The accused have been placed under judicial custody, and further investigation is ongoing. Police said additional evidence, including forensic reports, is awaited to strengthen the case.
