Police on Sunday detained the grandfather of a 4-year-old child who had been sexually abused in West Bengal‘s Hooghly district. Police said that after conducting an Investigation and discovering contradictions in the grandfather’s story, the grandfather—who was the complainant in the case—confessed to his crime.
According to police, the event happened on Friday close to the Tarakeswar railway station, where the child’s family had been staying.
The family claimed in a later lawsuit that the girl was sexually molested after being removed from under her mosquito net, which was allegedly slit open, while she was asleep.
A five-person Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to look into the event, according to Hooghly Rural Superintendent of Police Kamnashish Sen.
The SP went on to say that the investigation will be finished quickly and the proper action would be taken, just like in the previous case. “The most startling discovery in this case is that the primary accused is really the complainant, the victim’s grandfather. The cops have already taken him into custody.
The accused was brought before the court, which remanded him to one day of judicial custody because the Pocso court was closed today, the senior police officer continued.
On Monday, the accused will appear in Pocso court, where the police will request a seven-day detention.
A forensic team visited the location today and collected many samples while police roped off the crime scene.
Under close supervision, all required medical examinations are being performed. According to officials, the Child Welfare Committee has also been notified of the event and will carry out its own investigation. The region where the event took place is under railway administration, according to SP Kamnashish Sen.
The police have written to the Railway Police asking for more protection in the area because a Road Over Bridge (ROB) is being built there and cargo trains pass through. Additionally, local police will continue to be more watchful.
A girl with bite marks was discovered naked.
On Friday afternoon, the girl’s family found her by a drain next to the train station, covered in blood, after she had been abducted and sexually assaulted.
“The girl was discovered wounded, naked, and with bite marks on her cheek next to a drain. She is still bleeding from her genitalia after receiving treatment for hours,” stated Parna Adak, the BJP‘s Arambagh district secretary.
After being taken to Tarakeswar Rural Hospital, the girl received first aid from the medical staff before being released.
The girl was bleeding from her intimate areas, according to the family, and authorities neglected to notify the police right once. They accused hospital workers of handling the situation improperly. They claimed that when they later went to the police station, officers allegedly told them to leave.
Leaders and employees of the BJP will protest by storming the building. They accused doctors and police of being careless.
Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the Bengal Assembly, called Mamata Banerjee a “failed Chief Minister” and denounced her administration.
Ramendu Singha Roy, a Tarakeswar MLA, described the occurrence as “extremely regrettable” and blamed the Railway Police, who are in charge of the region, for a “security failure.” “The family may have left the police station earlier in confusion over medical treatment, but the administration later ensured all necessary medical arrangements were made,” Roy stated.
Subsequently, a formal complaint was filed in accordance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (Pocso).
