Dan Angell of Sports Illustrated recently proposed a trade option amid current rumors about NBA legend LeBron James’s future with the Los Angeles Lakers, now that Luka Doncic is the center of attention.
In exchange for Jimmy Butler and a 2028 first-round pick, Angell suggested that the Lakers transfer LeBron and Bronny James, father and son, to the Golden State Warriors.
“The Lakers really don’t love the idea of taking on Jimmy Butler’s contract, especially with LeBron’s contract due to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season,” he wrote. “They want to be free of LeBron’s contract, but there’s no way to do that before the end of 2026 without taking equal value back.”
How does it benefit the Lakers?
The franchise may have a greater opportunity of building a new roster under Luka Doncic’s leadership if they select a 2028 first-round pick, as per the present idea. In turn, Butler might be able to give him the short-term profits he needs to keep going.
How does it benefit the Warriors?
The Warriors’ most obvious advantage would be having James and his longtime friend Stephen Curry on the same team, something that several observers have been forecasting for some time.
He might still comfortably occupy the third star position even if he is younger than James in years. Butler, who was originally purchased from the Miami Heat, assisted the Warriors in securing their seventh seed following their victory in the Play-In game.
