A seasoned journalist claims that next year, Apple will finally start integrating Siri with more sophisticated features. Major updates to the Cupertino-based tech giant’s AI-based voice assistant were scheduled for 2024 with iOS 18, but most of those plans were scrapped as it lagged behind rivals in the AI race. Siri’s more sophisticated features, such as a new app intentions system, are now anticipated to be made available on Apple devices early in the upcoming year.
2026 Siri Upgrades
In the most recent Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman hinted at the impending updates to Apple’s Siri. The journalist claims that an App Intents feature that was previously anticipated to debut in the iOS 18 upgrade cycle will accompany the eagerly anticipated Siri makeover.
It is a framework that lets developers add system-level features like Spotlight, Shortcuts, Siri, Widgets, and more to their apps’ bespoke functionality across platforms. According to the business, App Intents and Apple Intelligence will allow the voice assistant to recommend activities within and between apps, assisting customers in discovering new capabilities.
Gurman claims that this new Siri technology will enable users to locate a certain photo, modify it, and transmit it with just their voice. Additionally, they won’t need to touch the device to remark on an Instagram post, explore a shopping platform and add items to their basket, or even register in to a service.
The journalist went on to say, “In essence, Siri could precisely control your apps within their own interfaces, just like you would.”
Amazon, Facebook, Temu, Threads, Uber, WhatsApp, and YouTube are among the third-party apps that the tech giant is reportedly testing the new Siri with. Additionally, it is testing the updated voice assistant in a few titles. Gurman did point out that Apple is considering limiting or turning off some of Siri’s new capabilities in apps related to finance and health. The purpose of this is to prevent the voice assistant from making important errors that were noted to have happened during internal testing.
The iOS 26.4 update is anticipated to bring these enhancements in the spring of next year. Notably, the iOS 18.4 update was issued on April 1st by the business, and the iOS 26 version may follow in 2026.
