Another Hindu Man Burned Alive in Bangladesh; Family Alleges It Was a Planned Murder

A shocking and gruesome incident from Bangladesh has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of religious minorities in the country. A 23-year-old Hindu man was burned alive inside a garage in the Narsingdi district, with his family alleging that the fire was not accidental but a carefully planned murder.

Family Alleges Premeditated Killing, Police Collect Evidence and CCTV Footage

The victim’s relatives have categorically rejected claims of an accidental fire, stating that the incident was a deliberate act of murder. They have demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and the strictest possible punishment. Following the allegations, police confirmed that evidence has been collected from the scene and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined.

The incident has intensified fears among minority communities and sparked fresh debate over communal safety in Bangladesh.

Who Was the Victim?

The deceased has been identified as Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik, a Hindu man who had been working at the garage for several years. Originally from Lakshmipur village in the Cumilla district, Chanchal had been living in Narsingdi for employment.

Family members said Chanchal was the middle son and the sole breadwinner of the household. His sudden and brutal death has left his family devastated, both emotionally and financially.

How the Incident Unfolded

The incident occurred late on Friday night near the Narsingdi Police Lines and the Mosque Market area. According to eyewitnesses and local residents, Chanchal was asleep inside the garage at the time of the attack.

Sources claim that unidentified assailants poured petrol on the shutter of the garage from outside and deliberately set it on fire. The flames reportedly spread rapidly inside the enclosed space, leaving Chanchal trapped with no means of escape.

An incident-related video circulating locally shows the fire starting outside the shop before engulfing the entire garage within minutes.

Firefighters Recover Burnt Body After Hour-Long Operation

After locals noticed the blaze, the fire department was alerted. A team from the Narsingdi Fire Service arrived at the scene and battled the flames for nearly an hour before bringing the fire under control.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered Chanchal’s severely burnt body inside the garage. Eyewitnesses stated that he remained trapped in the flames for a significant period and died in extreme agony.

Family and Community Demand Justice

Chanchal’s family described the incident as a “planned murder” and urged authorities to act swiftly. They called for the immediate identification and arrest of the perpetrators, along with exemplary punishment to deter similar crimes.

The killing has heightened tension in the area and reignited widespread concern about the security of Hindu minorities. Police officials confirmed that the process of filing a formal case is underway and that all possible angles, including communal motives, are being investigated.

Hindu Leaders Condemn Killing, Seek Protection for Minorities

Local Hindu community leaders strongly condemned the brutal murder and demanded urgent action from law enforcement agencies. They also appealed to the administration to take concrete steps to ensure the safety of minorities living in the region.

“Such incidents create fear and insecurity among minority communities,” one community leader said, stressing the need for visible and effective protection.

Rising Violence Against Minorities in Bangladesh

The killing of Chanchal Chandra Bhoumik comes amid a troubling pattern of mob violence against minorities in Bangladesh over recent months. Following the death of radical, anti-India student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, several violent incidents have been reported across the country.

On December 18, Dipu Chandra Das, a garment industry worker, was lynched by a mob over allegations of blasphemy and later burned. A few days later, Amrit Mondal was killed by a mob in the Rajbari district. He was described by authorities as a hardened criminal accused of extortion.

The violence has continued unabated. Last week, Hindu shopkeeper Liton Chandra Das was killed in a mob attack in Kaliganj. In another tragic incident, Ripon Saha, a fuel station employee, was crushed to death while trying to stop a vehicle from leaving a petrol pump without paying.

Renewed Calls for Accountability and Minority Protection

These repeated incidents have intensified calls from Human Rights groups and minority organizations for accountability, justice, and systemic reforms. Activists argue that unless decisive action is taken, such acts of violence will continue to threaten social harmony and Minority Rights in Bangladesh.

As investigations into Chanchal’s death continue, his family and community wait for answers—hoping that justice will not only be promised, but delivered.
