On the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference in Tianjin, China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Vladimir putin Monday and stated that the call of all mankind is to create a lasting peace in Ukraine.

“We haven’t stopped talking about the current situation in Ukraine. We applaud all of the recent peace initiatives. We hope that everyone will proceed in a positive manner. “We must find a way to put an immediate end to the conflict and create a lasting peace,” the prime minister stated.

In addition, PM Modi reiterated how strong India-Russian relations have been during difficult times.

“Russia and India have always supported one another, even during the most trying times. The people of both nations as well as the peace, stability, and prosperity of the world depend on our close cooperation,” he stated.

“My meetings with Putin have always been’memorable’,” PM Modi continued, adding that they have fostered confidence and allowed for open communication.

“I always think it was a remarkable experience to meet you. We have the chance to provide information about a wide range of topics. We’ve been communicating all the time. Regular high-level meetings between the two parties have taken place. 140 crore Indians are eagerly waiting for you for our 23rd summit in December this year. This reflects the depth and breadth of the special and privileged partnership,” the Prime Minister said.

Days after Donald Trump imposed punitive 50% tariffs on Indian imports due to New Delhi’s purchase of Russian crude oil, the power-pact summit took place. India has vehemently refuted the US’s accusation that New Delhi is financing Russia’s war against Ukraine, denouncing the West’s “hypocrisy.”

After meeting PM Modi in Tianjin, the Russian president returned the gesture and expressed his happiness.

“Meeting you has made me very pleased. The SCO offers a forum for bringing the nations of the Global South and East together. INDIA-RUSSIA relations were elevated to a ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’ 15 years ago on December 21, 2025. Our friendship is multifaceted. It is anticipated that today’s summit would significantly strengthen the connection between Russia and India. Russia and India enjoy very good relations,” Putin said.

In December 2025, Putin is scheduled to visit India for summit negotiations with Prime Minister Modi.
