The family and close associates of Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan say they have endured nearly seven weeks of silence—47 days without any confirmation of his well-being. The former PM remains held in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, reportedly inside a “death cell”, according to his son Kasim Khan. The absence of updates has triggered widespread speculation, including unverified reports of Khan’s possible death, fueling chaos and uncertainty across the Asim Munir–led establishment.
Fearing the worst, Khan’s sons believe authorities may be hiding “something irreversible” about his condition. According to Reuters, it has been more than three weeks since the family last received even indirect signs that the former prime minister is alive.
Despite multiple court orders granting regular jail visits, the Munir-led administration has allegedly obstructed access. Kasim told Reuters that the family has had absolutely no direct or verifiable contact with Imran Khan, even though judicial directives require weekly communication.
Responding to the growing anxiety, Khan’s ex-wife and mother of Kasim and Sulaiman, Jemima Goldsmith, posted on X: “They’re not even allowed to speak to him on the phone. No one is.”
One of Khan’s sons told Reuters, “Today, we have no verifiable information at all about his condition. Our greatest fear is that something irreversible is being hidden from us.”
“Not knowing whether your father is safe, injured, or even alive is a form of psychological torture,” he added, emphasizing that there has been no independently verified communication with the former PM for the past several weeks.
Last week, Kasim claimed his father had been held in a solitary “death cell” without transparency. “My father has been under arrest for 845 days,” he wrote on X. “He has been kept in solitary confinement in a death cell with zero transparency for the past six weeks.”
He further stated that Khan’s sisters have been denied entry despite clear court orders, adding: “No phone calls, no meetings, and no proof of life. Me and my brother have had no contact with our father.” According to him, the “absolute blackout” appears to be a deliberate attempt to prevent the family from learning about Imran Khan’s actual condition.
IMRAN KHAN’S LAST SOCIAL MEDIA POST HINTED AT CONFLICT WITH MUNIR
Imran Khan’s last verified social media post appeared on November 5—and it has since become central to the fears gripping his supporters and family. The message, written a day after he met his sister, did not hold back. Khan blamed his ongoing ordeal on a single individual.
He identified that individual as Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir. In the post, Khan mentioned Munir six times, calling him “the most tyrannical dictator in history” and accusing him of dismantling the rule of law by enforcing what he described as the “Asim Law.”
Khan also claimed that both he and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were facing severe mistreatment under Munir’s directives. He reiterated that his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), would not negotiate with what he called Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “puppet government,” vowing not to capitulate.
Imran Khan was first arrested in August 2023 following a series of corruption-related convictions—charges he and PTI supporters have long described as politically motivated.
Over the years, tensions between Khan and the Munir-led establishment have escalated sharply. His political influence and vocal criticism made him a prime target, especially after constitutional amendments passed in November further expanded Munir’s authority.
Today, with no confirmed communication from Khan, restricted jail access, and swirling rumours of possible transfers or worse, the silence surrounding his condition—combined with his final social media statement and the alarming claims made by his sons—has created deep unease across Pakistan and among his global supporters.
