According to a person familiar with the situation, the FBI searched John Bolton’s residence with a court order as part of a National Security Investigation.

The former US national security adviser’s home in the Washington, DC, area was visited by FBI agents, as The fox daily reported. At least four or six agents were observed entering the house after they had finished talking to someone on the porch.

Nothing has been observed leaving the house, but some of the agents removed luggage from the cars to bring inside.

When contacted by tfd, Bolton stated that he was investigating the matter further and was not aware of the FBI’s actions.

The New York Post was the first to report about the hunt on Friday. In a post on social media, FBI Director Kash Patel wrote that agents were “on mission,” but it was unclear if he was referring to the search.

Patel wrote, “@FBI agents on mission… NO ONE is above the law.” Regarding the search, the FBI chose not to comment.

According to the source familiar with the investigation, the probe is related to the potential retention of national security information. In 2019, during his first term in office, President Donald Trump fired Bolton, ending his time in government.

During his time in office, Trump has frequently attacked his former national security adviser. This month, he said that the media was “repeatedly quoting fired losers and really dumb people like John Bolton.”

Within hours of beginning his second term in January, the president dismissed Bolton’s Secret Service team.

After Bolton published a book in 2020 accusing Trump of being terribly ignorant about foreign policy issues and fixated on establishing his media legacy, the president threatened to imprison him during his first term. According to the book, Trump also requested assistance from Chinese and Ukrainian authorities in order to win the 2020 election.

It’s unclear if the present investigation focuses on the same book issue or on different material.

The book contained content that White House career staff had originally approved for publication, but Trump political appointees attempted to revoke that consent.

Bolton’s memoir may have “unlawfully disclosed classified information,” according to the Justice Department’s inquiry. However, officials under former President Joe Biden closed the case and abandoned a related lawsuit relating to the book’s 2021 release.

In recent months, Trump and his administration have launched a campaign of retaliation against a broad range of the president’s alleged political adversaries, including former Trump officials, members of Congress, and the prosecutors who filed cases against him while he was out of office.

In an intensification of Trump’s long-running conflict with Schiff, Patel last week declassified and made public internal FBI interview notes from a former House Intelligence Committee staffer who initially charged former Rep. Adam Schiff in 2017 with orchestrating unlawful leaks of classified material about Trump and Russia.

Additionally, this month, the Justice Department launched a grand jury inquiry into New York Attorney General Letitia James for her legal lawsuits against the National Rifle Association and Trump.

This tale is still in progress and will be updated.
