US President Donald Trump said that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has agreed to cease Russian oil imports and join in imposing sanctions. According to Trump, Starmer acknowledged the issue after he criticised NATO and European Union (EU) countries for continuing to buy oil from Russia.
Trump made the comments on Thursday while returning to Washington following his historic state visit to Britain — his second such visit, making him the first American President to be granted the honour twice.

“The UK Prime Minister was embarrassed that I caught Europe — NATO countries, EU countries, you could call it either way — buying oil from Russia,” Trump told reporters.
Trump claimed Starmer responded: “That’s not good.” The President added, “I appreciate that he said that. Starmer is not one of the culprits whose country buys Russian oil.”
Last week, Trump issued an ultimatum to NATO members to halt their Russian oil imports, warning that failure to act would “waste US resources.”
In a letter to NATO members and “the world,” Trump wrote: “I am ready to impose major sanctions on Russia when all NATO nations have agreed, and started, to do the same — and when all NATO nations stop buying oil from Russia. As you know, NATO’s commitment to win has been far less than 100 percent, and the purchase of Russian oil by some has been shocking. It greatly weakens your bargaining power over Russia.”
He concluded: “I am ready to go when you are. Just say when.”
