US President Donald Trump on Tuesday shared an Artificial Intelligence–generated map that dramatically reimagines American borders by depicting Greenland, Canada, and Venezuela as part of the United States.

The image was posted on Trump’s Truth Social platform at a time of rising diplomatic friction between Washington and several European capitals, particularly over the administration’s renewed insistence that Greenland is vital to US national security.

In the AI-generated image, the altered map appears prominently in the background of a photograph showing Trump hosting senior global leaders inside the Oval Office.

Among those depicted alongside the US president are French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

In a separate post, Trump shared another AI-generated visual showing himself planting a US flag on a landmass labelled “Greenland, US Territory, Est. 2026,” flanked by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The posts come as Trump continues to double down on his long-standing argument that Greenland should fall under US control, claiming the Arctic island is strategically indispensable to American security interests and essential to preventing Russian or Chinese influence in the region.

Both Denmark and Greenland have firmly rejected Trump’s assertions. Danish officials have reiterated that Greenland is not for sale, stressing that the island remains an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.

Greenlandic leaders have also dismissed any suggestion of US sovereignty, emphasizing the island’s right to self-determination.

Amid speculation about potential military scenarios, Denmark’s Defence Ministry has reiterated a Cold War–era directive instructing Danish forces to open fire without waiting for further orders if any foreign power attempts to occupy Danish territory, including Greenland.

The release of the AI-generated map coincides with increased military activity in the Arctic. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has confirmed that US aircraft will be deployed to Greenland’s Pituffik Space Base as part of pre-planned operations.

NORAD emphasized that the deployment was coordinated with Denmark and that Greenlandic authorities were informed in advance, underscoring that the activity was not linked to any immediate escalation.

Trump’s post also follows his decision to further strain transatlantic relations by announcing 10% tariffs, effective February 1, on imports from several European nations that have publicly backed Denmark and Greenland in the dispute.

The inclusion of Canada and Venezuela on the revised map has drawn additional global attention.

Trump has previously floated the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state of the United States — a suggestion that was flatly rejected by Canadian leaders, including Prime Minister Mark Carney, and which deepened trade and diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

Venezuela’s presence on the map follows dramatic developments earlier this month, when Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores were detained by US forces during an overnight operation in Caracas.

Trump claimed the operation was carried out jointly by US military and law enforcement agencies, stating that Maduro and Flores were taken into custody to face criminal charges related to narco-terrorism.

The 79-year-old Republican leader later announced that the United States would “run Venezuela” until a “safe, proper, and judicious transition” could be achieved, outlining plans to oversee the country’s infrastructure and vast oil resources as part of stabilization efforts.

Trump further fueled controversy by sharing a screenshot of his Wikipedia page on Truth Social, where he was identified as the “Acting President of Venezuela.”

Taken together, the AI-generated imagery and accompanying statements have intensified global scrutiny of Trump’s foreign policy posture, blurring the line between symbolism, political messaging, and real-world geopolitical consequences.
